SEO Weekly Digest on 7-11 of August 2023

This week has been packed with noteworthy updates from mostly Google. From clarifications on SEO tool scores to platform-specific changes, there’s plenty to catch up on.

Google Clarifies Stance on Third-Party SEO Tool Scores

Google’s Search Advocate, John Mueller, in the ‘Ask Googlebot’ series, clarified that Google doesn’t use scores from third-party SEO tools to determine search rankings. However, while these scores might not directly impact Google’s ranking process, they offer valuable insights into a website’s SEO performance. Mueller pointed out the importance of understanding the scoring mechanics of these tools. Additionally, Google’s Chrome Lighthouse tool, which provides scores on website performance, serves as an example of a helpful tool whose scores don’t influence search rankings directly but offer actionable insights to enhance user experience.

Google Boosts AI-Powered Search for Education

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) is set to offer improved features to foster learning and understanding. Users will now be able to directly view definitions and diagrams in search results. For coders, SGE will provide enhanced code syntax highlighting. Google is also rolling out an experimental “SGE while browsing” feature, designed to enrich the learning process by offering summaries of long articles.
